I can't say it is bad - valuable learning experience
They combined the pools. But in a way which meant I was fighting 1st Kyu and above. Including a National squad member and someone else who is apparently the current European champion.
So got thrown quite hard on a few occasions in ways I don't think have been done before.
Also, was feeling suicidal after that, so entered the Open as well Weirdly, did better in that (although still lost) because I think I had forced myself to wake up to the sort of Judo that was going on. |

| Glad to hear that your ok and definitely sounds a valuable learning experience. I take it that some of the pool numbers were low which is why they were combined. Did you fight any Black belts called Luke or Derek? |

Aside from the squad players, one guy was from Gosport, and another from Dorking.
Steve (Head coach...?) from Fleet & Frogmore was there though, albeit fighting in a different weight category. Pete also from there was fighting... he got a medal of some sort, although was nursing a sore arm afterwards (In his own words he held out against a Juji Gatame a bit too long!)
Need to work on making my Sumi Gaeshi stronger. Against the high level players they saw it coming and dumped me. Admittedly I didn't help myself by over-reaching for it, rather than being sensible and only going or it if a "sure thing", if that makes sense. |
